Winsford Walled Garden - a historical Devon garden to visit

Glorious North Devon garden specially designed and planted for maximum summer interest. Wander through herbaceous borders, a bamboo grove, massive gunnera manicata (giant Brazilian rhubarb). Winsford is home to the most innovative, most ornate, Victorian greenhouses in the south west of England made from 130 year-old Burmese teak - so no painting required.

Winsford Walled Garden was a forgotten ruin until its rediscovery in 1999. The original English walled garden with its 12ft high walls was, and always has been, a summer flower garden since it was built around 1880. Today, the harmonious summer garden design flows well beyond the original 12 foot high Victorian walls in a blaze of colour and interest that will surely surprise and delight.

Visit the garden for a few hours, or make use of our central location in Devon close to the South West's main road artery (A30) to stay longer as a guest in our Garden Bed and Breakfast accommodation within the walls. Whichever you decide, you can be sure of a warm welcome from Aileen, Michael and Tanya.

The gardens have been featured in 'Devon Today' magazine in July, 2008 and in 'Devon Life' magazine for three consecutive issues between March 2003 and May, 2003, inclusive, and also during June, 2007. During the garden's formative years it was featured for a complete year on ITV's 'Gardener's Tales' narrated by Jenny Agutter.
